Skyview High School in Virginia will become the first high school in the United States to possess a quantum computer on its premises starting in January, New Scientist reported. The device is manufactured by XeedQ, a quantum computing and sensing firm. Students will use the system directly to learn about the fundamental principles and underlying components of quantum computing. [1]

The machine, designated as the XQ1, was previously demonstrated at the Quantum World Congress 2026 event in Maryland, according to New Scientist. XeedQ designed the apparatus as an educational tool to encourage interest in quantum technology among students. [1]

Educational institutions in the state have a history of technology industry integration. Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Fairfax County, Virginia, established a selective admissions program in 1985 through cooperation between local government and corporate sponsors in the defense and technology sectors. [2]

The deployment occurs as governments and private investors expand funding for quantum computing, New Scientist reported. Industry leaders report a growing demand for qualified professionals as the field expands. [1]
