Archaeologists conducting excavations at the Castro do Pico da Bandeira site in Galicia, Spain, have uncovered an engraved granite stone dating back to the first century BC. Inkorr reported that the artifact was discovered within the structural remains of an ancient settlement. [1]
The stone is engraved on both sides. Inkorr reported that one face features a triskelion, which consists of three spiraling arms that rotate counterclockwise from a shared center. The reverse face displays a rough petroglyph, an image carved directly into the rock surface, whose precise meaning is currently under investigation by the research team. [1]
A triskelion is an ancient decorative motif composed either of a triple spiral showing rotational symmetry or of patterns in triplicate that extend from a common central point. The design appears across European Neolithic, Bronze Age, and Iron Age artifacts, and is strongly associated with La Tene culture and Celtic artistic traditions. [4]
Inkorr noted that the discovery highlights the region's rich cultural heritage. Researchers are continuing to analyze the stone and its carvings to determine the purpose of the petroglyph and its context within the settlement. [1]
