The scientific journal Frontiers in Cellular Neuroscience retracted a 2020 animal study on 26 October 2026, Bioengineer.org reported. The study evaluated whether Taurisolo, a grape pomace extract, protects the rat brain from ischemia-reperfusion injury, which is tissue damage caused when blood supply returns to tissue after a period of lack of oxygen. [1]
Bioengineer.org reported that the retraction notice was published by the editorial office of the journal following an investigation into image integrity. The editorial office stated that the data and conclusions of the published article were deemed unreliable. [1]
The retracted paper was originally published on 28 January 2020, according to Bioengineer.org. It was authored by a team of researchers including Lapi, Stornaiuolo, Sabatino, Sommella, Tenore, Daglia, Scuri, Di Maro, Colantuoni, and Novellino. [1]
The publisher of the journal, Frontiers Media SA, is an open access scientific publisher founded in 2007 by Kamila and Henry Markram. Headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland, the company operates across multiple countries and publishes all its journals under a Creative Commons Attribution License. Data integrity, which refers to maintaining data accuracy and consistency over its life cycle, is a critical requirement in scientific publishing. [2][3]
